Basic Search in Koha
From the library homepage, you can use the catalog tab to search the JFK University Libraries collection. The default search from here is our basic search option.
Enter your search terms in the search box. To start a search, you enter a word or multiple words in the search box.
When a single word is entered, a keyword search is performed, meaning the system will retrieve results that include your search term at any field in the record. When you have more than one word in the search box, Koha will still do a keyword search, but a bit differently. Each word will be searched on its own, and then the Boolean connector ‘and’ will narrow your search to those items with all words contained in matching records.
- Different forms of a word (ex: child, children, children’s) are searched automatically.
- Too many words in the search box will find very few matches; a single keyword may find too many matches.
The default search field is keyword. But you can also limit your search to specific fields ( title, author, subject, ISBN, series, or call number), use the search box drop down menu.
Your items will display in order of a “relevance” ranking. Please see the search results page for help on navigating your search results.
